This weekend, five years after first buying a house, I went to Long Island to remove stuff from my old bedroom. In addition to the boxes of D&D materials, comic books, and letters with which I could not part, there were many items whose only value lay in their status as visual reminders of themselves. If that makes sense. So I took pictures of some of them, then set them free.
Then I posted the pictures on Flickr, natch.

Great stuff. Coincidentally, my folks just brought up a box full of my old HS, umm "stuff." It's sitting in the garage, mainly unperused, but so I've thrown out the 1985 and 1986 Bill James Baseball Abstracts. I figured I don't need them anymore. . . . The old Van Halen and Led Zeppelin memorabilia, on the other hand, I still have a soft spot for. . . .
With the years, having moved from house to huge condo, to large apartment, to small I bedroom, I've carried everywhere overflowing boxes of my 2 sons'things. Now I'm 78 and I can't understand why they refuse to claim them, specially the scrapbooks of their kindergarten drawings. Cutest artworks I've ever seen; phenomenal value, I'm sure...

Claudia, buy yourself a digital camera, take pictures of everything, burn it all and scatter the ashes. That's what Buddha would do, except the digital camera part.
Bill, what a wonderful idea. Buddha was not only smart but such a cute-looking guy. I will scatter the ashes on my sons' living-room floors.
